CHOIR TRIP TO FRANCE
The Plymouth Area Police Choir recently visited Brittany to perform two concerts. The first was arranged through the secretary’s contact with a member of the Lions Club of Morlaix, who set in motion the organisation of a concert for the benefit of underprivileged children in the Morlaix area.
The concert was held in the church at Carantec, a fashionable resort on the coast, and was very well supported by the local residents, including the mayor of Carantec, who was pleased to meet our putative Lord Mayor, Michael Fox (who just happens to be the husband of our accompanist, Rosemary Fox!).
The acoustics in the church were wonderful, and for this reason the church is a regular and popular venue for musical concerts of all kinds. Our concert was very well received, and raised in excess of £1200 for the Lions Club’s charity.
The second concert took place in the church of La Feuillee, a small yet vibrant village in the heart of Brittany. Our Musical Director, Brian Gerry, lived in the village for four years, and was delighted to renew many friendships there.
This concert was also well supported by the local residents, who supplied a wonderful supper afterwards in the village hall.
26 singers made the trip to Brittany, and with wives and “groupies” our coach was almost full. We were blessed with sunshine for the whole four days, and took advantage of the weather to explore the beautiful countryside and coast.
All in all, it was a very successful and enjoyable “sejour” to promote a little Entente Cordiale, and to experience a little of life beyond our shores.
